Residential Projects
Case Study : High Value Residential Property
The 2008 Gap Storm caused extensive damage in the north-western suburbs of Brisbane, with cyclonic winds ripping off roofs and destroying many homes in the largely residential area. One of those most severely affected was a large mansion atop an exposed hilltop. The storm tore off a significant section of the roof and some external walls, exposing the high-value contents (including chandeliers and artwork) to water damage.
At the time, Vince headed up the northern region of a national company supplying restoration and reconstruction services to the insurance industry. This was a VIP client for the Insurer and he personally managed the works and maintained a high level of contact and communication between the Insured, the Insurer, staff and contractors.
Key Considerations:
The building had to be brought up to new wind ratings, with cyclone rods installed in external walls and tie-downs incorporated into columns
The client wished to remain in the property during the repair stage
High-value artwork and contents had to be restored and stored safely off-site
Access to the site was extremely difficult due to the location and narrow roads with tight turns
There were many delays due to continual storms and heavy rain

The works were completed over a six-month period and included:

Boxing out the crystal chandeliers

Re-trussing areas of the main roof and adjacent buildings

Upgrading the internal box gutters and drains
